First Day of Classes! (wait, canceled!?)
So today was my first day of classes for my second semester.
And, yes, they got canceled.
Well. Almost ALL canceled.
Sadly they didn't cancel my 9:00a.m class. *sniff* But everything AFTER that got canceled.
Because we got SNOWWWWW!!! We almost never get snow. So we were all really excited!!
It turned into a super chill (haha get it?) day. Played some games. Lounged in the caf. And decided to do a photo-shoot! I love taking pictures and generally I have no lack of willing model volunteers. It was snowing so heavily that it was absolutely gorgeous! My fingers kind of froze. (can't really wear gloves while you take pictures...) But it was so worth it cause I really had a lot of fun.
I got someone to at least take one picture of me so I'd have it. See the pretty snow! :D |
Anyways, looks like this next semester I'm going to have about 15 hours of classes. (Unless I decide to try out for the play. They're doing the Sound of Music, and I have such a baby face I think I could play one of the kids pretty well. But I'm still unsure about the whole idea because it is a lot of extra time. Maybe I could just try out for the part of a nun or something...) Which is more hours than I had last semester. I have 9 am classes every day. At least its not 8 am! I'm hoping I'll settle in to everything nicely and it'll be a good semester. We shall see!

College Recap (and why I love microwaves)
Break has nearly come to an end. I'll be back at school soon. Classes start in a week. So lets talk college. And life. And college life.
So!
Loads of new experiences happened last semester!
People ask me all the time what I think of school. Is it hard? Have a boyfriend yet? Etc. etc. etc. (Anyone read that in the voice of that Indian guy from that musical whose name I can't remember? All I can remember about that is that quote and the fact that she had a giant hoop skirt dress the entire movie. Anyways...) My answer so often surprises people. (well, not the boyfriend thing lol they'd be surprised if I did respond favorably on the that note) The school work is not hard. Perhaps I just had easy classes last semester. I think I did. Either way they weren't a problem. The "hard" part of college was the social aspect. Like wow. I didn't realize how terrible I was at making friends until I went to college. But gracious. I'm practically a hermit! Ok, maybe not that bad. But really. Its not like I can really feel bad about it though. Cause practice makes perfect, right? And, well, to be quite honest I have never had to make new friends before. Its not like I ever went to school or moved somewhere new. So that has been a huge learning curve for me.
Another learning curve I went through was living somewhere new. It took me awhile to get used to it. They say it takes 6 weeks to form a new habit and that is kind of how it was for me. But I did get there eventually! And I'm not dreading going back next week, which is awesome!
I participated in some interesting new things too. Like going to a formal event for the first time. (I skipped on Prom. Shame on me. lol) Dressing up was fun! Though there was no dancing involved which bummed me out. Thought the whole banquet was Hunger Games themed which was pretty sweet!
I also got to act in a student short film. That was interesting to see myself projected rather giant-ly in the auditorium. I won't lie, that was pretty sweet. My first ever public showing of a film I was in! (even if it was only five minutes long LOL) I actually hadn't even seen the footage before it was shown so I was kinda nervous. Like what if I looked awful!? It worked out. I didn't die. (Hurray!!)
You know what I really missed this semester? A microwave. That was random. But I got one to take back with me and I'm really happy about. I'm looking forward to hot chocolate and popcorn!!
So. Its 2016 now. A new semester approaches. So here's to another brave semester! I am going back, and I will be one step closer to that degree, an education, and a brighter future.

Some of the girls on my floor. That'd be me in the black dress under District 4. |

Cinderella Week Tag (thought this sounded like fun!)
Seems like there is a thing going around about Cinderella this week. And since I haven't done a fun movie tag in awhile I thought I'd join in on the festivities!
1. In the vast array of fairytale heroines, what particular character qualities most define Cinderella?
Well, she is a girl with a great deal of will. It all the stories she keeps a positive attitude despite the cruelties that befall her. She is also sweet, good natured, and has a love of the outdoor world.
2. What are some of the deeper, big picture differences you see between retellings where both stepsisters are nasty and others where one is nasty and one is kind? How do you think the two takes differently develop/illuminate/affect Cinderella’s character and also the overarching story itself?
I have to say I like the story the best where one of the sisters is kind and other other is rude. I think the kind sister adds a level to the story that would not be there otherwise. The kind sister gives Cinderella a reason to stay with her cruel family. If the entire family were cruel, well, if I was Cinderella I would have packed up and left a long time ago.
3. Are you an animal lover? Would you eagerly count mice, lizards, cows, and geese as friends? Dogs and cats?
Yes! I'm quite the animal lover. I'm not big on mice or lizards, but I do think cows are pretty cute and I have several ducks. Definitely a dog person, but I have two cats as well.
4. After asking question #3, I realized how remarkably many of the adaptations I’ve seen have Cinderella either horseback riding or involved with horses. Have you ever ridden? If so, have you ever ridden sidesaddle or bareback?
I love how horses are involved frequently in the Cinderella stories. I have ridden! I'm actually a little obsessed. I currently own a cute little quarter horse mare named Lady. I've been riding since I was very small, and I love to ride bareback. I actually take pride in the fact that I can ride decently well bareback. Its a good skill to have and not as easy as it looks.
5. Your favorite Cinderella dress/s?
6. Do you ever think of Cinderella while doing your household chores? :)
Sometimes if I'm washing dishes and there are a lot of bubbles I think of the animated film. And then that song gets stuck in my head...
7. What major character traits do you think are essential in a faithful prince?
A name. I always appreciate it when they give Prince Charming a name. That is the beginning of all characters.
8. Your top THREE favorite fairy tales (as in the original folk tales, not adaptations).
I'm honestly not big on fairytales, I don't think I really know any of the originals.
9. Your top FIVE current favorite fairy tale/legend type films (BESIDES any Cinderella adaptations).
Oh gracious. I haven't even seen all the animated Disney princess movies! But let's see. I liked the Snow White and the Huntsman movie. A bit darker than your average princess. I am really looking forward to Disney's live action Beauty and the Beast with Emma Watson! I can't wait to see that one!
10. If you could play Cinderella and the story could be set in any region of the world and any time period, what would you pick? And what would your dream ‘ball gown’ for it be like?
I like how the recent live action adaption with Lily James was set. I think that was just about perfect. And I dunno. I think her dress was rather pretty.
11. And (purely for fun :))… what color/s do you immediately associate with Cinderella?
Blue!
