Pre Age of Ultron Preparation

GUYS AVENGERS AGE OF ULTRON COMES TO THEATERS THIS WEEK

I'm a little excited. Ok. Maybe a lot. :D

A group of us are going (my Renaissance buddies!) to the premier tomorrow and we decided to do some cosplaying. (It is the premier after all!) It really took me a long time to decide on which costume to do. I debated Hawkeye first but thought his costume might be too complicate. (Same goes for Loki, though I really want to do that one. Thor 3, maybe?) Then I seriously thought about doing Nick Fury. I have the trench coat and everything for that one, and it'd be fun to wear the eye patch. But in the end, after a moment of inspiration, I decided to go with Agent Peggy Carter.

She's not actually in Age of Ultron. (I think. Perhaps she'll show up and I'll be surprised. You never know...) But oh well. Close enough. She's still been in a lot of Marvel stuff recently. So it works.

And the fact that her costume wouldn't really be that hard to put together. (Unlike Loki's...)  Just a bit of thrift store shopping and voila!

Agent Carter has a lot of different great costumes. Even more with the addition of her own television series, which I really enjoyed. But in the end I decided I wanted to do something similar to this outfit.

Mixed with this outfit. (Basically I wanted the leather jacket from the first pic and the skirt and heels from the second.)

Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) and Peggy Carter (Hayley Atwell): Captain America, the First Avenger

I ended up doing the rest of my shopping for it yesterday, and I just tried everything on together today. I'm really happy with how it turned out!! I think it really works, and people should be able to tell what I was going for. :D

For now here's a few pictures of what I have. (I was too lazy to get out my good camera so I just took some off my ipad, so quality... ya... lol)

I definitely had to do the red lipstick thing. This one's called "British Red" I knew I had to buy it when I saw that. :D
I also plan on attempting to pin curl my hair. Attempt is the word. We'll see how it goes... :D

Tomorrow we are planning to do a bit of a photo-shoot before we head to the theater. So hopefully we'll end up with some awesome pictures of le costumes!

CAUSE TOMORROW IS AVENGERS AGE OF ULTRON!!!

The official Avengers: Age of Ultron poster is here, and I have some questions.

Until Later!
Enjoy the movie folks!

A Really Random Blog Post

The part of the show where I write a really random blog post. :D

Because there are a lot of things I'd like to write about, but I don't really think I should devote an entire post to each one. So I shall be writing about a lot of random things in one post! Hurray!

Okay, I lied. This topic does deserve an entire post, so for the moment I shall just hint about it. Cause it was super fun and exciting and I have like a billion pictures. I visited a Renaissance Festival! Complete with a joust and everything! We dressed up of course. I shall elaborate more on that later... For now one picture.

Yes, that is my friend from Adventures of An Elven Princess. :D I'm on the left.

I was super happy to see the return of When Calls the Heart over on the Hallmark Channel this past Saturday! I loved the first season of the show last year. Its pretty cute. Its based on the Canadian West book series by Janette Oke. They took liberties with the show of course. (who doesn't these days) But it's still a great show and a lot of fun! It even has horses, which, you know, makes me happy. And I love the costumes! So I'm happy its returned for a second go. Saturdays on the Hallmark Channel 8/7c!

Season two airs 8/7c on @hallmarkchannel 4/25/15!

Aanndd the Kentucky Rolex 3-Day Event was this weekend! (If I haven't spelled it out yet, I'm a big horse fan. lol) The Rolex is like huge in the eventing horse world. They have this really awesome live stream for the event. So I basically spent my weekend watching it while I did homework.

If you don't know what eventing is, its english riding that is a competition consisting of three events generally over three days. Each horse and rider team must compete in dressage first, then cross-country, then show jumping. The pair with the best score is crowned the winner after all three competitions. Its basically the Iron Man triathlon of the horse world. It requires finesse, endurance, and precision. This year it was won by an amazing German rider who actually took both 1st and 3rd place because he competed with two different horses. Confusing I know, but no less amazing! Anyways, I've been basically glued to the live-stream on the internet for the last three days. There were some absolutely amazing horses and riders competing this year! (Yes, I watched it last year too...)

Check out this helmet-cam video of Elisa Wallace and Simply Priceless as they take on this year's cross-country course. It was her first year competing in the Rolex and they finished in the top 20. Very well done!

And lastly, I'm very happy to be finishing up school. My official graduation is at the end of May. Woo-hoo!

Until Later!

tv show review - Scorpion

One of my absolute favorite things about Fall  is the fact that new shows premier on tv. (And your favorites from last year return for another season!) Of course most of the new shows will be ridiculous or get canceled, but one can always hope that you will find that one you like among the newbies. Its basically like a television treasure hunt...

This year CBS launched a new drama called Scorpion. Its wasn't originally on my radar. I must have missed the promotionals somewhere or another. It ended up that my cousin introduced it to me. (We have a tendency to trade tv and movie suggestions.)

 Scorpion Tv Show

Borrowing the description from IMDb, "An eccentric genius forms an international network of super-geniuses to act as the last line of defense against the complicated threats of the modern world." Basically the show is about a team of eccentric geniuses who tackle various intense problems.

Its actually based on a true story which makes it even more cool!

I personally love science-y, tech-y, and genius-y type stuff so this show perked my interested from the start.

Now I think this show has a lot of potential. But it has had some bumps along the way.

I have a feeling this exchange might happen between Eli & Red. Especially if they were undercover or something.

To start, they have a lot of really great ideas but sometimes they don't come across as well as they could have. The dialog is lacking in areas. But I will agree that the basic idea behind the show is really good. And they have done a fairly decent job explaining each of the character's back story. I think the writing did get a lot better as it went along though. And a lot of the story plots were really original!

With Elyes Gabel, Katharine McPhee, Eddie Kaye Thomas, Jadyn Wong. An eccentric genius forms an international network of super-geniuses to act as the last line of defense against the complicated threats of the modern world.

The directing and acting in Scorpion started out a bit rough. That really is not surprising though since for most of the actors this was their first big role. But towards the end of the season I could see a large improvement. Particularly with the main character. There were a few scenes in the last couple of episodes that I was really impressed by. I don't know who directs the episodes but that always tends to have a big impact on how well of a performance the actor gives. (In case you didn't know its better to watch new movies by who directs them than by who acts in them. For example David Nolan directs The Dark Knight trilogy and Interstellar. Both are amazing.) I think as the actors became more comfortable with their roles it got a lot better.

(This show is also, except for like maybe one episode, pretty clean; which is always nice.)

Scorpion on cbs

Over all this show isn't as captivating or cinematically stunning as some of the stuff on right now. But it is decently entertaining and it has a lot of potential. Its the type of show that you just sit down and watch when you just want to relax. (and not be emotionally traumatized!) Its guaranteed to make you think, and you'll feel super smart as you watched a bunch of geniuses save the worlds problems. (It also has some secret agents involved, who doesn't love a good spy?) While its not my all time favorite or the best ever made, I enjoyed it.  I think this show could go somewhere; it has a lot of potential. Its pretty entertaining and lots of fun.

So if you're ever bored and you're out of things to watch, try looking up Scorpion!

Scorpion on CBS

(They just wrapped up season one and should be back with a second season in the Fall!) (And don't you just love borrowing pictures off the internet? Thanks Pinterest!) :D

That Time I Cosplayed Bilbo | The Hobbit Challenge

"In a hole in the ground there lived a hobbit." -J.R.R. Tolkien

Anyone else out there enjoy a good cosplay? I sure do. :D
I have a really exciting one coming up, but more about that later...

NOW, if you follow the lovely Beth's blog you will have read something about the #HobbitChallenge fan video contest. The folks over at The Hobbit decided they wanted fans to recreate scenes from the three movies. Naturally I couldn't resist. I love filming things. (like a lot) So this was like the most perfect opportunity! How could I not?

With a little deliberation we decided to recreate the "Good-morning" scene from An Unexpected Journey. Only in our version the lead characters would be female.

The part of playing Bilbo fell to me. Mostly because I'm short, lol. Beth starred as Gandalf. And on a very cold January afternoon filming began.

Bilbo Baggins

Did I mention it was January. And. Cold. And I was barefoot?

We ended up filming in the middle of my horse pasture because, despite the fact that it wasn't green, it looked somewhat like Hobbiton. And we stole the bench from my kitchen to use as Bilbo's bench in front of his house. The other interesting thing we changed from the original is that we had Bilbo sip tea instead of smoke a pipe. We thought it would be more ladylike. (it also took foreverrrrrr to curl my super straight hair)

About a million camera angles, takes, and bloopers later we had a hilariously fun little video. (and a really long behind the scenes video)

We didn't win, but I still think we produced a great entry. And it was loads of fun! It was totally worth walking around barefoot in the middle of January for! Besides, we got to check two more awesome cosplays off our lists.
From Beth's blog

Perhaps one day Peter Jackson will watch our video and think we were the coolest fans ever... You never know... :D

The Slightly Obsessed Photographer

"Creativity is contagious, pass it on." -Albert Einstein

When I wanted to start this blog, I went looking for a picture I could use as a cover photo. I found the above (thank you google images ) and, do to the fact that I'm slightly obsessed with DSLR cameras, thought it was a perfect fit.

Well almost perfect.

The amusing thing about it, is the fact that I don't use Canon cameras. I'm more of a Nikon person. (Not that I would argue if someone offered to give me a Canon free of charge. Hey, I'd most certainly use it!) I probably just went with Nikon because everyone else is drooling over the various Canon Rebels and I wanted to be different. I a classic example of me once again going against the grain of society. :D

The camera I currently have is a Nikon D3300, and it is new to me. I'm still trying to figure the thing out. Which includes, but is not limited to, watching lots of tutorials on youtube. My new best friend, you can learn just about anything on youtube.

But the thing really does take nice pictures, and I have been impressed with it so far. Probably been having way to much fun. But a person's got to have a hobby, right?

For lack of anything better to use as an example of my lovely camera, here is my adorable dog Bear. (seriously, is he not cute?)

With that said I really should now go spend more time on my photography skillz.

Later folks! :)

TV Show Review - Marvel's Agent Carter

"What would Cap say if I left his best girl behind?"
"He'd say "Do as Peggy says".
" -Marvel's Agent Carter

Anyone that knows anything about the latest Marvel movies will instantly recognize Agent Peggy Carter from our favorite star spangled hero's first movie Captain America: The First Avenger. Critiques and fans alike enjoyed her so much in that movie that Marvel decided to give Ms Carter her own tv show.

The show, simply titled Agent Carter, aired during the mid-season break of Marvel's Agents of SHIELD.

I personally loved how they did that because we had something to watch while we waited for SHIELD to return. So well done Marvel. Definitely a good idea.

Not only did the show see the return of Peggy Carter, it also brought back the well-liked character of Howard Stark. The show also introduced new characters such a Edwin Jarvis (and, yes, Tony Stark named his A.I. after him).

Overall I think it was a well made show. While it doesn't make it on to my list of all-time-favorite-shows, it was pleasantly entertaining. I thought that it started out a little boring but definitely got better as it went along. Towards the end it started to introduce some really intriguing ideas. (such as the origins of Black Widow, anyone?)

Like I said above, I think the best thing about this series is that it filled up the space left by Agents of SHIELD and gave Marvel fans something to watch until it returned.

I think this show definitely has potential to go somewhere, and if you need something to watch I totally recommend it. I'm hoping it gets a season two cause I'd love to see it back again next year!
